In 1850, Yung Wing was admitted to Yale University and became the first international student in modern Chinese history, starting a long journey of Chinese abroad studies in the past centuries.
In 1910, Hu Shi was admitted to Cornell University. Five years later, Ren Hongjuan, Zhao Yuanren, and Yang Quan founded Chinese Science Society on this campus, which was then moved back to the motherland.
During 1950s, Zhu Guangya from the University of Michigan, Qian Xuesen from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Deng Jiaxian from Purdue University, resolutely returned to China after several twists and turns, and jointly created the legend of "two bombs and one satellite" in New China.
In 1998, Zhang Ligang founded the Harvard China Forum, bringing the power of China to the campus across the ocean.
In the 21st century, Robin Li, Zhang Chaoyang, Shen Nanpeng, and Xu Xiaoping all returned to China to start their own business, and became entrepreneurs who have great influence on the generation of Chinese youth.
Present, it has been 120 years since Mr. Liang Qichao wrote the first sentence of looking forward to a new China and encouragement towards the youth, in "A Story of Young China". Young China has become the mainstay of the world's new economic structure, but the mission of Chinese teenagers has become even more ardous.
Based on such challenges, a number of former university forum founders, former chairman of the Chinese Students and Scholars Association, and young entrepreneurs, have jointly established the Providence Academy, aiming to cultivate a new generation of Chinese student leaders, inherit the spirit of studying abroad, and jointly improve the vast number of Chinese International students' comprehensive quality.
On 20th July 2018, Providence Academy was officially established in the commune at the foot of the Great Wall. The first phase of the college brought together one hundred chairmen of the Chinese Students and Scholars Association of overseas of universities and returnee entrepreneurs from four countries, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia, including hundreds of top institutions such as Harvard University, Yale University, Oxford University, Princeton University, Cornell University, University of Toronto, and Monash University.
The first event of Providence Academy lasted for three days. A number of mentors were invited to share their insights and industry experience with the students. Infinite possibilities of Chinese youth were also discussed in depth during the event:

- Mr. Zhang Ligang, the director of Providence Academy and the chairman of Ikang Healthcare Group, Inc., distributed the school badge of Providence Academy for every student at the emblem awarding ceremony, and welcomed the students to officially join the Providence family.
- In addition to the conference and public courses, the students visited Pan Shiyi's portrait photography exhibition for Jack Ma, Robin Li, Lei Jun and many other entrepreneurs in the commune park at the foot of the SOHO Great Wall, to experience the spirit and inheritance of Chinese entrepreneurs. The students had banquets and stayed in the villas designed by architects such as Kengo Kuma, Anton, Kanika, and Makoto Furuya in the commune park at the foot of the Great Wall, integrating with nature and the ancient Great Wall.
- At the end of the first phase of the event of Providence Academy, students completed the 8km Great Wall cross-country run together, and climbed mountains and peaks together.
Although the three-day launching was short, the trainees made a deep friendship during the exchange and expansion, and also learned a lot of experience and knowledge from the mentors and school managers.
Liu Buchan: "On the journey to Western side, I know very well the strategy of China's self-improvement, and I have nothing else to ask for."
Providence Academy will soon release "2018 White Paper on Chinese Overseas Students" with hundreds of Chinese Students and Scholars Associations and post-study companies, and launch multiple versions of online courses at the same time. The college will also work with the students to practice the school motto of "responsibility, sincerity, mutual aid, obligation, and share the responsibility of today", and work together to realize the ideal of "changing the future of Chinese students studying abroad".
